Mental Health Therapy

I provide individual psychotherapy for adults with a variety of mental health issues. The clients I work with often struggle with feeling a loss of personal identity, paralyzed by fear of expressing themselves, unable to pursue their desires, or a sense of dissatisfaction in their life. I approach my work with a relational focus which means that I take great care in building trusting relationships with my clients and hold the perspective that the relationship between myself and my clients is the foundation of effective therapy. I use experiential techniques in therapy sessions such as somatic therapy and expressive art therapy to help my clients reduce emotional distress, express themselves freely, and develop a greater sense of joy and ease in their life. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Oregon (C6375). I provide a free 15 minute video chat consultation if you would like to learn more about the work that I do.

  • Somatic therapy recognizes the integral connection between the mind and the body. I believe that the quality of our lives and psychological wellbeing is directly impacted by whether or not the mind and body can operate as one cohesive, feeling organism. For example, when we feel disconnected or numb to sensations in our bodies, it can generate and/or reflect a sense of deadening in all areas of a person’s life. My approach to Somatic therapy is rooted in the work of Wilhelm Reich, pioneering psychoanalyst that studied how the body plays a role in the functioning of the psyche.

“…the goal of Contemporary Reichian Body-Mind Therapy is to undo emotional distress via systematically helping an individual to first recognize and then lessen chronic patterns of armoring. As armor can manifest itself in all aspects of one's life: style of thinking, beliefs and attitudes, interpersonal behavior (that which Reich termed 'character armor'); and in posture, breathing style, and pattern of muscular and visceral tensions (that which Reich termed 'muscular armor'), it makes sense that therapy must address all of these aspects of living in the world. Using Reich's terminology, therapy consists of the gradual elimination or softening of character and muscular armoring” - Daniel Schiff, Ph.d

  • “The creative process transforms life…” - Shaun McNiff, Art Therapist

Expressive Art Therapy is the practice of using art for the purpose of providing a therapeutic experience. In expressive art therapy, the focus of art making is centered around the creative process and emotional response to that process. Using art in therapy sessions whether it be drawing, writing, acting, singing or dancing, has a variety of benefits; the creation of art transforms pain into something new and life affirming, it allows for a way of expressing oneself that doesn’t rely on words and it provides a path to making the unconscious, conscious

Voice Work

I am passionate about supporting creative growth in others. Voice work is for you if you are curious about the connection between your voice, body, psyche and creative expression. Through exploring and expanding the contours of the voice we can explore and expand the self. I utilize Voice Movement Therapy as the foundation for working with the voice.

Voice Movement Therapy (VMT) is an expressive art modality that works specifically with the voice, breath and the body to create more freedom of expression. During our sessions, I will guide you through exploring and expanding your breath, body movement, singing, sounding, creative writing reflection and song-making. Through our work together, I will provide a non-judgement supportive environment as you gain freedom and comfort with your own unique vocal expression.

Voice Movement Therapy

“ Voice Movement Therapy (VMT) was conceived by Englishman, Paul Newham, based on the pioneering methods of vocal facilitator Alfred Wolfsohn and influenced by the theatre work of actor and director Roy Hart; the acoustical analysis of otolaryngologist Dr Paul Moses; the characterological bodywork of Wilhelm Reich; and the psychological principles of C.G. Jung. It is the first in-depth Expressive Therapy which employs the human voice as its main modality and is readily communicable to people of different cultures and backgrounds. It is both creative and therapeutic in that it requires an exploration of oneself and one’s issues through the contours of the voice and through the creative enactment of one’s personal story in movement and song.
